Senior Congress leader B. Janardhana Poojary and other Congress activists performed “urulu seve” (rolling ritual) and other rituals at the Gokarnatheshwara Temple here on Saturday. These rituals were performed for the speedy recovery of All-India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi, who is undergoing treatment in the U.S.
Mr. Poojary and Abhayachandra Jain, MLA, were among the activists who performed “urulu seve”. After “urulu seve”, Mr. Poojary offered “panchamruta abhisheka” and “belli rathotsava” (silver chariot) sevas.
Mr. Poojary said that he was performing these rituals as he believed in Lord Gokarnatheshwara. He said his offerings were to ensure that the services of Ms. Sonia Gandhi were available for many more years. People had been benefited by schemes such as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and Right to Education Act and she had sacrificed a lot for the development of the country, he said.
Mr. Poojary urged the people to offer special prayers at churches, mosques, and gurudwaras for Ms. Sonia Gandhi's speedy recovery. U.T. Khader, MLA, and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Ivan D'Souza were present.
