The abandoned van in which the 40,000 detonators were found at Tellar village on Thursday, belongs to one of the accused absconding in the case of large amount of explosives seized around Karkala, the police said.

K. Annamalai, Assistant Superintendent of Police, said on Friday that the abandoned van had been traced to Biju, one of the seven accused in the case of seizure of 82.54 tonnes of ammonium nitrate, 21,350m of safety fuse wires and 87,534 detonators, found in seven places around Karkala from March 25 to 27.

Two special police teams were on the lookout for the accused. The police was also examining if the explosives were in any way linked to terrorist or Naxalite activities.
