The Karnataka bandh called by the pro-Kannada outfits over the Cauvery River Authority’s order evoked mixed response in Udupi district on Saturday. The bandh was however peaceful.
The bandh evoked poor response in Udupi as normal life was unaffected. Business establishments and government offices functioned as usual. Since private city and service buses were functioning, people were not put to any trouble. But KSRTC buses were affected to a partial extent.
S.V. Bhat, who runs a catering business here, said he was waiting in the KSRTC Bus Stand from 9.15 a.m. to 11.20 a.m., but he could not find a single bus to take him to Kumta in Uttara Kannada district.
Education Officer Ashok Kamath said most schools functioned in the district.
The members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), Jaya Karnataka and Udupi Zilla Nagarika Samiti staged a “rasta roko” at the Karavali Junction.
