Udupi MLA slams BJP for trying to politicise gang-rape

June 29, 2013 02:25 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 08:32 pm IST - Udupi:

Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to politicise and communalise the Manipal gang-rape case.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Madhwaraj said the BJP and the Sangh Parivar had initially spread rumours that some of the accused in the case belonged to a particular community. Later they spread canards that Congress workers were involved. He said the police should take stern action against all wrong-doers irrespective of caste, religion or party affiliation of the suspects.

“If I have done something wrong, the police should take action against me. In fact, it was two Congress workers Sukesh and Wilson who had provided information to the police, which led to the arrest of the accused in the Manipal gang-rape case,” he said.

He said the police should also investigate whether the three suspects arrested in connection with the case had any links with the Sangh Parivar. The police should also take stern action against drug mafia or other anti-social activities taking place in Udupi or Manipal. All the bars and pubs should comply with the close-down time in Manipal.
