Udupi Diocese celebrates first anniversary

The first anniversary of the formation of the Catholic Diocese of Udupi was celebrated at Milagres Cathedral at Kallianpur on Tuesday.

The celebrations were held under the leadership of the Bishop of the diocese, Gerald Isaac Lobo. A thanksgiving mass was celebrated on the occasion. More than 40 priests and more than 1,000 devotees participated in the celebrations.

Fr. Lesly D’Souza, priest of Shankarpura Church, said that a lot of development had taken place in Udupi Diocese in the past one year.

After releasing a souvenir titled ‘Ashirwad’, Dr. Lobo thanked everyone for cooperating with him for the development of the diocese. He sought everyone’s cooperation for the future also.

Stany B. Lobo, Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Chancellor of the diocese, Fr. Denis D’Sa, priest of Kuntalnagar church, and Fr. Stany Tauro, Fr. J.A. Barboza, Fr. Anil D’Souza and Fr. Fred Masceranhas, Deans, were present on the occasion.

The Udupi Diocese has a population of 65,634. There are 14,568 families, 67 diocesan priests, 15 priests, 256 sisters, 48 parishes, 5 deaneries, 41 women religious houses, 9 men religious houses, 3 shrines, 9 diocesan nursery schools, 43 diocesan primary schools, 15 diocesan high schools, 6 junior colleges, 4 degree colleges, and 2 post-graduate centres.
