The executive committee of the Udupi district unit of the Congress has unanimously recommended Udupi-Chikmagalur MP K. Jayaprakash Hegde to be the party’s candidate for the parliamentary elections from the same constituency.

At a meeting of the party held here on Saturday, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary and in-charge of Udupi district K.P. Nanjundi urged the members to suggest three names for the seat in the next elections.

However, the meeting unanimously resolved to forward Mr. Hegde’s name to the high command. The presidents of all the eight Block Congress Committees under Udupi-Chikmagalur parliamentary constituency backed Mr. Hegde’s name.
