Similar events at the Someshwar and Ullal beaches would help in turning the two beaches into tourist destinations

Music programme by “Jai Ho” fame singer Vijayprakash, dance programme and food festival are among the programmes lined up for the beach festival to be held on the Ullal Beach on November 24 and 25. This will be the first beach festival to be held on the Ullal beach.

The festival will be organised by the Maruthi Yuvaka Mandal to mark their silver jubilee celebrations. Deputy Commissioner N.S. Channappa Gowda said the Government would provide all possible support to the Mandal for organising the two-day event. Mr. Gowda and MLA U.T. Khader launched the logo of the two-day event on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters, Bharath Kumar, the president of Mandal’s Silver Jubilee Celebration committee, said the music programme by Vijayaprakash has been scheduled on the inaugural day. There will be a dance programme named “Nrutya Vaibhava” by 20 students, besides a boat race, display of sand sculpture and food festival. “This is a part of our efforts to boost the image of the town,” Mr. Kumar said.

Mr. Gowda said beach festivals conducted by private organisations have helped in attracting tourists to Panambur. He said similar events at the Someshwar and Ullal beaches would help in turning the two beaches into tourist destinations. Four months ago maintenance of Someshwar and Thannirbavi beaches were handed over to private firms, he said.

Mr. Khader lauded involvement of members of Mandali in activities boosting the image of Mangalore. He said cultural events could not be held on the Ullal beach until now as it had been facing problem of sea erosion. Mr. Khader said the work related to prevention of sea erosion is likely to begin in January.
