Two youths, who were allegedly overspeeding on their bike and riding without helmets, died in and around the city in separate accidents on Sunday.
At 7.40 a.m., Akshay Godi (20), a resident of Bagalkot and studying at a medical college in Bangalore, was travelling with Sanjeeva H. Gowda (20), from Hassan who is also a medical student at Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, on the Bejai-Kapikad road when they lost control of their motorcycle over a speed bump, said the Traffic West police. They hit a divider. Mr. Godi – who was not wearing a helmet – died on the spot; Mr. Gowda suffered minor injuries.
The two, both of whom were students at Expert PU College, had come to the city for an alumni meet.
At 6.40 a.m., Mohammad Haris (26), a resident of Adoor, was travelling on his bike back home when he collided with a minivan at Gurupura Kaikamba. The impact was such that the minivan swerved into a ditch and toppled, injuring three persons, said the Bajpe Police. Mr. Haris had come to his hometown on a break from his job in Saudi Arabia.
StonedA man was stoned by five men for allegedly “talking close to women” in a bus near Shantinagar on the outskirts of the city Saturday night. In his complaint, Ravinder (32) said he was travelling in the bus from Panjimogeru to his house Markada with his wife and infant when a person started accusing him of brushing against women on the pretext of talking on the phone. At Shantinagar, five men pulled him out, and threw stones at him.
