Two women die in bus-car collision

Two women were killed on the spot when a bus they were travelling in from Pumpwell to Manjanady, collided with a car and toppled near the Thokottu Junction on Sunday.

Police have registered a case against the bus driver.

Those killed in the accident have been identified as Cecelia Vegas (35) and Molly D'Souza (43) from Adam Kudru. The victims were first thrown out of the bus due to the impact of the collision and then crushed to death as the bus toppled on them.

A 28-year-old man from Tamil Nadu, who was also travelling in the bus, had a miraculous escape. Although thrown out of the bus, he was wedged between the two bodiesand was later rescued, said police sub-inspector T.D. Nagaraj. The driver of the car sustained multiple fractures but was said to be out of danger. Nineteen bus passengers have sustained minor injuries, the police said.
