Two students die in road accident

Two class eight students died after a road accident near Manjanady in Konaje limits on Tuesday night. While one student was a pedestrian, the other was riding pillion on the scooter that hit the former.

The Konaje police said Siraj (19) was riding his father’s scooter with his relative Zakir as pillion. They were going from Soudaguli Cross to Manjanady to recharge their mobile phones. At a narrow inclined portion of the road, Siraj hit Tamim Iqbal, who was walking on the road.

The police said Siraj then lost control over the vehicle and overturned into a ditch.

Tamim, who had a head injury, died in a private hospital near Bhagwan Mahaveer Junction on Tuesday night. Zakir, who had an injury on his chest, died in another private hospital in Falnir.

Siraj, who has been named as accused, has been admitted to a newly opened hospital in Deralakatte. The police said Zakir and Tamim Iqbal were students of Al Madina School in Manjanady.

Motorist dies

A 28-year-old motorcyclist died on Wednesday after he was hit by a car near Kuloor bridge.

The Mangaluru North Police said the car driver Shekar Suvarna, a mechanic in a showroom in Kuloor, was coming towards the city. He turned his vehicle towards the portion of the bridge meant for vehicles going towards Udupi. The car rammed into the motorcycle just as it entered the bridge.

Motorcycle rider Sunil Acharya, a resident of Car Street, died on the spot, the police said. The police have arrested Shekar Survana.

Scooterist killed

A scooter rider died after his vehicle was hit by a lorry on the National Highway between Bhagwan Mahaveer Junction and Nantoor Junction on Tuesday.

The Mangaluru East Traffic police said Gabriel Jesu Priya (58) from Kuttar was riding his scooter towards Nantoor. Vittal Mahadev Pawar, the driver of the lorry, was also moving in the same direction.

The scooter was hit by the lorry as it was overtaking the former around 7 p.m. Gabriel Jesu Priya fell off his vehicle and died on the spot, the police said.

The lorry driver has been arrested, the police added.
