Two die as van falls from bridge near Baikampady in Mangalore

Nine daily-wage workers were being taken from the area towards Surathkal in the open pick-up truck when it rolled off the bridge

At least two workers were killed and several others injured when the pick-up truck they were travelling by fell from the bridge at Baikampady on the outskirts of the city on Sunday night.

The police said around 9 p.m., nine daily-wage workers were being taken from the area towards Surathkal in the open pick-up truck when it rolled off the bridge.

The names of the dead were given Harish (24) from Belthangady and Ramesh 28, from Eargatti near Belgaum.

The condition of the one of the injured was said to be critical. As the vehicle fell on the railway track, the trains were held up for about an hour.
