Two persons from the minority community were assaulted in Puttur Railway Station on Tuesday night by a group for allegedly talking to a girl.

According to the Railway police, at 10 p.m., Sayyed (20) and Anwar (20), both from Kanyana near Vital, were waiting for the Bangalore-bound train at the station when a group of around 10 persons accosted them.

They asked the duo about the girl they had spoken to on the bus from Vittal to Puttur, and accused them of “Love Jihad”, said the police.

In his complaint to the railway police, Sayyed said at the Vittal bus stand, they had asked a girl if the bus goes to Puttur Railway Station.

This led to the locals taking offence, and calling members of their “right-wing” outfit to accost the duo, said the police, who have filed a case against “unknown persons”.
