Three men attacked two others from the same community with lethal weapons near Guruvayanakere in Belthangady police limits on Sunday night.
The victims are out of danger and in a hospital, said Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police C.H. Sudheer Kumar Reddy in a press release here. He gave the names of victims as Irfan and Nissar, residents of Pallippadi in Kolthamajalu village of Belthangady taluk.
The victims were said to be in the sand business and had been receiving telephonic queries about supply of sand by some unknown persons. When they were proceeding to meet the prospective customers, the accused attacked them with weapons, it is said.
Mr. Reddy said that the assailants too hailed from the same community. Belthangady police have registered cases of attempt to murder and assault against the unknown accused and are investigating.
Meanwhile, the police have taken into custody one of the prime accused in the Ashraf Kalai murder case of Benjanapadavu. Mr. Reddy gave the name of the accused as Divyaraj Shetty.
When District in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai visited Ashraf Kalai’s house at Benjanapadavu, community members from the area reportedly stood showing their back to the Minister in an apparent indication of their unhappiness against him.
