The Gurudatta Samsthana from Odiyoor will be conducting a day-long Tulunad Jatre (Festival of Tulu region) to mark its silver jubilee celebrations at Nehru Maidan on Sunday.
Talking to reporters here on Friday, Gurudevananda Swami from the Samsthana said the event was being held for the cause of rejuvenation of Tulu language and culture. Among others, the Samsthana was trying to put pressure on the State Government for inclusion of Tulu in Eight Schedule to the Constitution.
The seer said chariot processions for the event had began from three different places. One procession began from Sullia, while another began from Chandragiri near Kasaragod. The third procession was from Barkur near Kundapur. All the three processions will culminate at Nehru Maidan Sunday afternoon. There would be exhibition of Tulu artefacts, poets’ meet and other events as a part of the day-long event. “We will be reiterating before politicians the need for protection of Tulu and its culture,” the Swami said.
