Tulu festival to discuss Nethravati diversion issue

Honarary president of Vishwa Tuluvere Parba (global Tulu festival) D. Veerendra Heggade has said that the three-day festival beginning here from December 12 will discuss the pros and cons of diverting the Nethravati and take a decision on saving the river.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, he said that about one lakh persons were expected to attend the festival, which would end on December 14, on the premises of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management at Adyar.

Chief Minister Siddaramaih would attend the valedictory.

Mr. Heggade said the festival would also have a session on Kambala (slush track buffalo race). It would discuss different aspects of Kambala. He appealed to all Tulu-speaking people to support the festival.

There would be discussions on different aspects of Tulu culture and exhibition, he said. Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada B. Ramanath Rai said he was prevailing upon the government to take all legal steps to ensure that Kambala was allowed to go on smoothly in the undivided Dakshina Kannada.
