As part of ‘Demands Day’ programme to press for their various demands such as payment of salary dues and to stop discriminating while granting leave to the staff, employees of the State Road Transport Corporations took out a protest march and staged a dharna here on Friday.
Led by trade union leader and president of the All Karnataka State Road Transport Employees’ Federation K.S. Sharma, the protesting employees marched from ‘Vishwa Shrama Chetana’ on Gokul Road to the central office of North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation.
The protest was to highlight a total of 23 demands of the employees working for the State-owned road transport corporations across the State.
Salary duesOn reaching the central office, the protestors staged a dharna to highlight their woes, and raised slogans for early fulfilment of their demands – the important of which were payment of salary arrears to the employees, amendment to ‘illegal points’ in Form 9-6, solving the problem of harassment and discrimination in the issue of leaves to the employees.
Other demands included basic amenities in bus depots, rest houses for the employees having night shift, payment of PF arrears, work for women employees only in general shifts, effective measures to check harassment of women employees and increasing body building works at Hubli regional workshop.
The protestors submitted a memoranda with the list of their demands to the officials of the NWKRTC. Office bearers and members of the Federation from Hubli, Dharwad, Belgaum, Chikkodi, Gadag, Haveri, Sirsi, central officer and regional workshop units took part in the agitation.
