Train services were affected as signals failed at Mangaluru Junction Railway Station on Monday owing to heavy lightning late in the evening.

A spokesperson for the Southern Railway said that three trains were held up at different locations near Mangaluru since 8 p.m.

Train no 12217 was held up at Netravathi Cabin, Train no 56641 at Jokatte and Train no 16524 at Mangaluru Junction itself. The city experienced heavy lightning accompanied with rains late in the evening.

Signals had not been restored till 11.30 p.m.

“To overcome the situation, mechanical/manual operations may be required to receive trains at platforms and give signals. This will take more time than electronic operations. It will also result in delay in train movements,” the spokesperson said adding that the train services at Mangaluru Central Railway Station have not been affected.
