Traffic curbs on some roads for Sonia’s visit

Parking banned along roads on which her convoy will pass

The police have banned parking of vehicles along roads on which the convoy of Congress president Sonia Gandhi will be passing, from 11 a.m. on Thursday. There would be diversions in the movement of traffic, according to a release from Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar. The traffic diversion and ban on parking would be in force till Ms. Gandhi leaves the city from Mangalore Airport Thursday night, the release said.

The parking would be banned on either side of the road between the airport and Circuit House; on the Circuit House-Lalbagh-PVS Circle- Hampankatta-Hamilton Circle stretch; between Rao and Rao Circle and Clock Tower; and on the Ballalbagh-Mannagudda-Durgamahal-Kudroli Temple-Alake Bridge stretch. Diversion signage would be placed at appropriate points, the release said.

Vehicles of VVIPs would be allowed to enter Nehru Maidan from the gate on U.P. Mallya Road.

Other political leaders and party activists have to enter the meeting venue from KSCA ground by undergoing security checks at three different points. Parking facility had been provided on the taluk panchyat premises and Rosario College Grounds, the release said.

Ms. Gandhi would be spending about an hour at the Kudroli Gokarnanatheswara Temple and take part in the centenary celebrations.

Earlier, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara told presspersons that Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah and he would be apprising Ms. Gandhi about prevailing the political situation in Karnataka.

They would speak about the prevailing drought situation and about the Cauvery water dispute. They would be speaking about problem of yellow disease for areca plantation and problems of fishermen.

KPCC president G. Parameshwara on Wednesday announced the schedule of the one-day visit of UPA Chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi to the city on Thursday. He said there could be some change in the programme if the Special Protection Group (SPG) decided so.

4 p.m.: Arrival at the Mangalore Airport

4.30 p.m.: Arrival at Nehru Maidan the venue of Pradesh Congress office bearers meeting

4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.: Meeting at Nehru Maidan

6 p.m.: Inauguration of Dasara celebrations at Sri Gokarnanatheswara Temple, Kudroli

7 p.m.: Leaving Mangalore to airport.
