Many Taluk Panchayat members expressed their displeasure over the time taken by the officials in giving title deeds to people staying in government and government allotted land.

At the meeting held on Tuesday, the Mangalore Taluk Panchayat members said the officials were deliberately delaying the issue of title deeds. The meeting was chaired by Mangalore MLA U.T. Khader. Tahsildar Ravichandra Nayak and other officials of the taluk participated in the meeting.

A member said Taluk Panchayat officials were not giving the extract of the Record of Rights to Tenancy and Crops (RTC) on the ground that they do not have records pertaining to title deeds issued before 1974. He pointed that 184 applications from Kotekar have been kept pending for a long time.

The members were angry over the way officials were behaving rudely with the applicants. Some pointed that brokers and real estate agents have easy access to officials. .

Agreeing with some of the problems at the Taluk Panchayat office, Mr. Nayak said records of some title deeds were not with them. “But people can bring the copy of the title deeds they possess. We will cross verify with the details mentioned in our register (of Title deeds) and issue RTC,' he said. The taluk office has already started issuing RTC extracts in this manner, he added.

The members then raised the issue of delay in issuance of Above Poverty Line ration cards. To this, Mr. Nayak said the State government has now permitted Taluk Panchayat Office to issue the cards. “We have received the equipment. It will take a month to start issuing new ration cards,” he said.
