The District Magistrate N. S. Channappa Gowda has banned parking of vehicles on either side along the main road from Mangalore Airport at Kenjar to A. B. Shetty Circle in the city via Kavoor, Bondel, KPT Junction, Circuit House, Nanthoor, Shivbagh, Horticulture Junction, Ambedkar Circle, Balmatta, and Hampankatta here from 6 a.m. on Monday.
This is in view of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L. K. Advani's Jan Chetana Yatra here on Monday.
Parking of vehicles on either side of the National Highway 66 between Nanthoor and Mulky via Kottara, Panambur, had been banned from 6 a.m. The ban would be in force till Mr. Advani leaves for Udupi via Surathkal and Mulky after addressing a gathering at the Nehru Maidan at 11 a.m.
A notification issued by Mr. Gowda said that movement of vehicles between A. B. Shetty Circle and erstwhile Clock Tower had been banned from 10 a.m. until the function at the Maidan got over. During this period, in-bound and outgoing vehicles operating from the State Bank of India bus terminus should take Hamilton Circle-Clock Tower route.
Those attending the function at the maidan had been directed to park their vehicles on Mangaladevi Road; Roasario Road; Post Office Road at Pandeshwar, Old Kent Road and upper Nehru Maidan.
The police said that Mr. Advani would arrive at the airport at 10.30 a.m. and halt at the Circuit House at 10.45 a.m. He would proceed to the maidan via Nanthoor to attend the function at 11 a.m. He would reach Udupi at 3.30 p.m.
Mr. Advani would halt at Murudeshwar on Monday.
Padayatra
Meanwhile, workers of the BJP took out a padayatra from Belthangady to Mangalore on Sunday to support the yatra.
About 1,500 workers, including about 100 women, started their padayatra from Belthangady at 7.30 a.m. and reached the city late in the evening.
Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada J. Krishna Palemar and Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the padayatra at Belthangady.
Alok Mohan, Inspector-General of Police, Western Range, said the police have tightened the security and taken all precautionary steps in view of Mr. Advani's yatra.
