Three fish meal factory workers critical

Five workers of a fish meal unit in Kotepura in Ullal were admitted to two private hospitals on Monday when they fell unconscious because of breathing difficulty in an underground oil tank. The condition of three was said to be critical.

According to Ullal police, the five workers of Super Aquatic Marine Products entered the underground oil tank of the unit for routine clean up on Monday evening. When the workers did not emerge from the tank, their colleagues searched and found them inside the tank.

The police gave the names of the workers as Mohammed Sharief (24) from Hubli, Sarith (22) from Maharashtra, Chandru (25) from Gadag, Ashraf (26) from Ullal, and Basavaraj (32) from Gadag.

The Ullal police have taken up a case of negligence against the owner.
