Three 21-year-olds died on the spot in two separate accidents in the district on Saturday. On their way to college around 8.45 a.m., Dikshit P. and Raghavendra Prasad, both final year commerce students of KSS College in Subramanya, died after a collision with an oncoming van near Kulkunda, said Subramanya police. Fearing violence from the people who gathered at the site, Manjunath, the driver, fled the spot, said the police.
Around 2 p.m., Shashiprabha, a student of S.D.M. College, died after a KSRTC bus rammed into the motorcycle she was travelling in near Pragati Maidan, Puttur. She was being dropped by her brother to the bus stand when the accident happened, said the Puttur traffic police. A case has been booked against Eshwar, the driver of the Puttur-Mangalore bus.Case registered
A case has been registered in Bajpe police station on Saturday against Mohammed Usman of falsely accusing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and orator Chakravati Sulibele of delivering speeches hurting religious sentiments at a function on January 5. Two youths friends, were found dead near railway track at Kanwatheertha near Manjeshwaram on Saturday. The bodies of Ajith Kumar (19) and Anil (25) – said to be a native of Mulki – both residing at Kunjathur, were found.
The police suspect they were hit by a train. Anil was a casual labourer and Ajith, an autorickshaw driver. Anil’s body was kept at the General Hospital here and that of Ajith was handed over to relatives, the police said.Woman dies
A woman died when her son lost control of his scooter while negotiating a speedbump at Kinnimulki here on Saturday. Udupi Traffic Police said Chandrakala (44), a resident of Katapady Mattu, was travelling pillion on her son Santan’s scooter from Udyavar to Udupi.
Chandrakala was thrown off the vehicle when her son missed the speedbumps.
She suffered severe head injuries and succumbed to them at a private hospital in Udupi. A case was registered at the Udupi Traffic Police Station.
