Concerted efforts appear to be on to disturb harmony in the sensitive Ullal region over the last two days, with sporadic incidents of stabbing reported. On Tuesday afternoon, another case was reported in Kallapu.

The stabbing incidents are viewed as retaliation to the recent murder of fisherman Raju Kotian, who was stabbed when he was on the way to fishing in Ullal.

Early on Monday, Ibrahim Hassan (27), a resident of Kotepura, Ullal, was allegedly stabbed by five unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants when he was on the way to the Mangaluru Bundar. Even as the police were searching for the attackers, three youths who were returning home from Mangaluru were allegedly attacked with lethal weapons in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to the police, Safvan (24), Saleem (22) and Nizam (22), who work with a catering contractor, were on their way home when they were attacked near Thokkottu junction. Five miscreants who came in two motorcycles allegedly waylaid the youth and attacked them with weapons.

Safvan, who was injured seriously, has been admitted to a hospital in the city. The others were treated at a local hospital. Footage from a CCTV camera close to the spot has purportedly indicated the participation of people from Krishnanagar and Ganeshnagar in Thokkottu.

Later in the day, Safan (27), a resident of Patla, Kallapu, was allegedly attacked with weapons by about four miscreants when he was coming out of his house. He has been admitted in a hospital.

The Ullal police have registered cases. The police took out a peace march under Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) M. Shantharaju on Tuesday. They also deployed additional forces, including City Armed Reserve and Karnataka Industrial Security Force members, to bring the situation to normal.
