The Kerala Samajam of Mangalore celebrated Onam here on Sunday. The programme began with a short film on Mangalore city and the origins of the Kerala Samajam. It was followed by a cultural programme where children presented group and solo dances and sang group songs. The first dance was ballet done by a group of girls which depicted scenes from the mythology. The second was a Western dance after which a group song in Kannada was presented.
T.K. Rajan, president, Kerala Samajam, said the samajam has 3,000 members. He said that other competitions had been held over the past one month at the Kerala Samajam office in the city. Sixty people, in 20 teams, participated in the cultural programme. It included a “Thiruvathira” performance by women, he said.
Men, women, and children had dressed in traditional attire. “Onam Saadya” was served at the event.
Ramnath Pradeep, Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank, and Lekshmi Kumaran, Deputy General Manager, Corporate Communications, MRPL, were the chief guests.
