The Mangalore Cycling Club, a group of 100-odd cyclists, on Sunday opened a new websitewww.mangalore bicycleclub.comthat gives a host of information starting with the basics of cycling to exercises for cyclists, nutrition tips, and other activities of the club.

The new website was launched by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) K. Shantaraju. He said that it was good for the youth to pick up hobbies like cycling than be distracted with activities that would be detrimental to them. Cycling, he said, was among the health habits that help build a healthy society. Besides health benefits, cycling in a group encouraged community living and exchange of ideas, he said. Cycling could make youngsters better citizens, Mr. Shantaraju added.

Club’s general secretary Ganesh Nayak spoke about the website and its mobile-friendly features. The website gives 10 important health tips for cyclists that include consuming carbohydrate filled food and prior hydration before starting cycling. It also gives information about stretching exercises and training schedule that they should follow.

Earlier, president of the club, Dony Menezes and Kishen Bangera were felicitated for cycling 400 km and 300 km, respectively, in a day. Cyclists who have successfully completed 200 km league and 100 km league were also felicitated. Cyclists Ashok Vardhan, K.R.
