The dazzle of saris at Vastrasagar mela

Colourful saris are a prime attraction at a government-sponsored exhibition ‘Vastrasagar’ under way at Pradeshik Hindi Prachara Samithi Hall, Lalbagh here.

The exhibition, sponsored by the Department of Handlooms and Textiles, began on Sunday and would be on till March 22.

The exhibition-cum-sale would be open for public from 10 a.m. 9 p.m.

Handloom cotton saris, silk saris and cotton and silk-mixed saris are on for sale along with cotton shirts, bed sheets and bath towels.

Handloom weavers from Kundagola near Hubli are showcasing saris with ‘kasuti’ work on them.

Weavers from Madanayakana Halli near Bengaluru have Mysore silk saris at prices ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 15,000.

They also have light-coloured silk saris with Banaras border.

There are well known Molkalmuru saris with D. Maheshwari special editions. They have peacock and adike palu saris, simhasana saris, modern-type rich pallu saris and geographical indication saris.

The prices range from Rs. 850 to Rs. 20,000. Weavers from Shivamogga have on sale simple cotton saris costing Rs. 550.

Weavers from Nidagundi Handloom Cluster, Vijayapura, are displaying the famous Ilkal saris.

In addition, weavers from Bagalkot, Chitradurga, Bengaluru and Kalaburagi also have brought their products for sale. There are separate stalls selling bath towels and bed sheets and shirts.
