Teenager run over by tanker near Surathkal Railway Station

A 19-year-old man was killed when he was run over by a bullet tanker on the overbridge near Surathkal Railway Station on Tuesday. Surathkal police said Sandeep Acharya was riding pillion on the motorcycle driven by his friend.

Police said Jayaprakash tried to overtake a car and hit a side of the tanker coming from the other side.

Acharya fell off, came under the wheels of the tanker and died on the spot. The friend escaped unhurt.

Woman ‘jumps’ into river

A 35-year-old woman is suspected to have jumped off a cable-stayed bridge into the Payaswini River in Sullia on Tuesday. According to Sullia police, Anuradha, a resident of Shiraguppa taluk in Bellary, left back her luggage on the bridge.

The police said a passerby noticed the fall when he heard splash of the water. The woman is yet to be found.
