A 13-year-old girl was repeatedly subjected to sexual abuse over a period of 15 months allegedly by two relatives in Kulashekar, near here. The police have arrested one accused and are searching for the other.

The Hindu is withholding the names of the accused, both 20 years old, to protect the identity of the survivor.

The police said that four days ago the girl told her mother about her ordeal. The mother approached a woman’s rights group and then came with her daughter to file a police complaint.

According to the complaint, the girl was called by the mother of one of the accused to help her during the renovation of their house in May 2012. The mother was not in her house, the two accused sexually assaulted her in May 2012. They threatened to kill her if she reported the act.

The police said the accused again assaulted the girl in August 2013 when the accused and his family moved to their new house. She revealed the two incidents to her mother.

Accused convicted

The Fourth Additional District and Sessions Judge B.K. Naik on Tuesday found Roopesh, a resident of Munchchoor, guilty of raping a 17-year-old girl in Munchchoor in Bajpe on December 10, 2010.

The sentencing would be on Thursday.

The 17-year-old girl was raped when she was returning to her house on December 10 morning. Roopesh dragged her to a bush and sexually assaulted her. She reported about the incident to her mother. Four days later a complaint was filed.

Among the witnesses examined by Prosecutor Shivaprasad Alva included the girl, her mother, her uncle and the doctor.

In his statement before the court the doctor said though the girl did not have any injuries on her body, sexual assault could not be ruled out. The judge found Roopesh guilty for wrongful restraint (Section 341), criminal intimidation (Section 506) and sexual assault (Section 376) of IPC.
