A 23-year-old female commuter has alleged that a bus conductor harassed her by asking her to get down from the vehicle late in the night during her recent journey from Mangalore to Bangalore.
Though she had a purchased a ticket online, the conductor asked her to pay the fare (Rs. 600) again because she carried the photocopies of her documents that establish her identity instead of the originals. When she refused to alight, the conductor allegedly berated her in front of other commuters and made the driver stop the bus thrice.
Rashmi Shenoy Adyar, an engineer working for a software firm in Bangalore, was here to visit her relatives on the occasion of the Ganesha festival. She was returning on September 10 to Bangalore. Describing the incident as “very painful” and “demeaning” at a time when she was travelling alone, she has written to the KSRTC seeking action against the conductor.
She said when she gave photocopies of documents, “he stopped the bus in the middle of a forest ahead of B.C. Road around 11.30 in the night.” In a reply sent to her by email, KSRTC Chief Traffic Manager (Traffic) has regretted the rude behaviour the conductor and forwarded her email to the Mangalore Divisional Controller with “an advice to investigate into the complaint on priority and to send a report to this office.”
Run over
A 45-year-old woman was run over by a goods train in Neralakatte near Mani on Thursday night. The Railway police said body of Soumya, a widow and a native of Kadaba, was found by passer-by on Friday morning.
Drowned
A person accidentally slipped, fell into a lake and drowned at Kome Mannu near Kodikanyana village coming under the Kota police station limits in Kundapur taluk. According to the police, Babu Poojary (55), drowned between 2 a.m. on September 11 and 10.15 a.m. on September 13. A case of unnatural death had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.
Homeguard injured
A 30-year-old Home Guard is said to be serious after he fell down from the Kulur flyover on Saturday night. According to Kavoor police, Girish (30) was driving his motorcycle towards the city around 10 p.m. He lost control over the vehicle, hit a wall and thereafter fell. Girish has been admitted to the a private hospital nearby.
