Team displays self-defence techniques for women

The Department of Mass Communication of St. Aloysius College conducted ‘Sthree Shakti’ – a self-defence techniques workshop for women.

The Department of Mass Communication of St. Aloysius College conducted ‘Sthree Shakti’ – a self-defence techniques workshop for women on Tuesday.

The Institute of Karate and Allied Arts led by Gladwin Fernandes demonstrated the self-defence techniques. The team displayed a variety of steps one could use to defend oneself against attackers or molesters and interacted with participants. A few volunteers from the audience got a chance to try out some of the self-defence moves.

Advocate and former Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee Asha Nayak explained various legal provisions and how the security of women at domestic and professional levels is being taken seriously after 67 years of independence. She said reporting of crime against women was inadequate.

Executive Director, Centre for Integrated Learning Sanhitha Nadagopala spoke about safety and security of women in India.
