Mobile app-based taxi aggregators in the state still appear to be operating in a void without any specific regulations governing them.

State Transport Commissioner Rame Gowda told The Hindu that the department is waiting for uniform regulations to be framed by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

In a recent meeting of state transport department representatives with MoRTH, some states suggested the regulations be based on the IT Act, while the majority demanded them to be under the Motor Vehicles Act, Mr. Rame Gowda said.

If the aggregates work under the Motor Vehicles Act, fixing the responsibility would be easy. Also, it would ensure better monitoring of the companies, he said.

Till such regulations come, may in a couple of months, status-quo would continue, he added.

Meanwhile, Ola’s Mangaluru operational head N. Sadhanandhan said the company has been adhering to all prevailing norms fixed by various government agencies.
