‘Targets achieved’

District Health Officer Shivakumar H.S. told The Hindu on Tuesday that Mangalore has achieved the targets for 2015 for infant mortality rate (IMR) and maternal mortality rate (MMR).

He said the ratio of death of mothers per 1 lakh live births MMR in Mangalore was 84 whereas the State’s average was about 120. The rate of death of children per 1,000 infants here was 10.6 as against the State’s average of 34, he said.

The United Nation’s Millennium Development Goal is to achieve MMR of 109 and IMR of 42 by 2015.
