The Central Crime Branch police have arrested a suspected aide of underworld operative Ravi Poojary in connection with threat to businessman Ahmed Mohideen in Bangra Kulur on March 3.

A few persons had entered the office of Mr. Mohideen in V.K. Towers in Bangra Kulur and reportedly threatened the latter’s life in the name of Poojary.

The CCB team arrested Ruturaj Srikant Khot (20) of Agashiva Nagar in Malkapur of Satara district in Maharashtra. According to police, Khot reportedly threatened Mr. Mohideen in his office on the directions of Poojary. The police are also questioning Ganesh Lakshman Saket, Mukesh Shivaji Kamble, Kamal Singh Rajput and Dattatreya Tukaram Wagre, all suspected aides of Poojary, and arrested for reportedly firing at a builder in Bejai Anegudi Road.

Five arrested

A special city police team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Sadanand Vernekar, has arrested five persons in connection with the killing of bus owner Aneesh Shetty, 35, near Kadri Park on May 9.

The police gave the names of the accused as Hemant Kumar (42) of Hoige Bazar, Diana Crasta (40) of Bolar, Anish Lipik Lasrado (29) of Permannur, Abdul Raheem (38) of Adyar and Rohan D’Souza (42) of Jeppu Bappal.

In a press note, the police said Hemant Kumar reportedly called Shetty to discuss about a land deal in Shaktingar. As Mr. Shetty was looking at the property documents, Hemant and the persons accompanying him reportedly hit him on his stomach, head and legs with sword. They also threatened people at the spot after the attack and escaped. Among those arrested include Anish Lepak Lasrado, a close associate of Mr. Shetty for allegedly conspiring in the murder.

The police have recovered a car and a multi utility vehicle used by the assaulters. The police have also recovered swords and knives used by the assaulters.

Tree falls on man

A farmer died after an areca tree reportedly fell on him at his farm in Aryappa village, Puttur taluk, on Tuesday. Around 12.30 p.m., Padmaiah (30) was crushed in front of his family as they watched the tree — probably weakened by rain from the past week — fell on him, said the Puttur Rural police.

Bike stolen

A motorcycle, worth Rs. 30,000, was stolen from under the B.C. Road flyover recently. Bantwal Town Police said though Ranjith Kumar’s motorcycle was stolen on May 8, he filed a complaint on Tuesday after his search for the vehicle yielded no result.
