Two Mangalore University Syndicate members have alleged that the Principal of a government college in Vittla had been denying admission to a student for the MSW course.
Ravichandra P.M. and Harish Achar told presspersons here on Saturday that the Principal of the Government First Grade College in Vittla had denied permission to Swastika, a student, on the grounds that she had paid the fees late.
But the college had given admission to other students who paid the fees late.
Mr. Ravichandra said that September 6 was the last date for the payment of fees and the results of Ms. Swastika's application for re-evaluation were declared that very day. So, she had orally obtained permission from principal Uday Kumar to pay the fees later and accordingly, deposited the amount on September 9.
He claimed that he had records to prove that other students had paid their fees on September 7, but the college had allowed it.
He said the High Court had directed the college and the university to allow her to appear for the examination held on December 16.
Responding to the allegations, Mr. Kumar said that Ms. Swastika had appeared for the common entrance test on September 3 on the basis of which students were admitted, but she did not turn up for the admission on September 5 and 6.
He said that her application for admission to the MSW course had not come before the admission committee but she had managed to pay the fees without his knowledge either through “collusion” with office staff or by a genuine error on the part of the latter.
Mr. Kumar said that he had written to the university to grant her admission but the university had rejected it on grounds that the fees was paid late.
