The Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of State Bank of India that was stolen from Kinnimulki here on June 13 was found abandoned at Baikady village, near Brahmavar in Udupi district, on Thursday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jayant Shetty told The Hindu that the thieves had broken open the ATM and taken away Rs. 14,51,200 from the cash box.

The cash box had been thrown in a bush. Fingerprint experts and a dog squad were pressed into service, he said. Some women from the village who had gone there to pick mushrooms noticed the ATM and informed the local people, who informed the police.
