A 16-year-old boy, who was to write SSLC examination on Thursday, committed suicide in his house in Jalligudde in Mangalore Rural Police Station limits on Wednesday, reportedly due to examination pressure.
The police said Ranjit (16), a student of St. Joseph Secondary School, was supposed to write the Science paper on Thursday in the ongoing examination. Ranjit visited a temple near his house. He returned to his tile-roof house in Jayanagar in Jalligudde in the afternoon when all his relatives had gone out.
Ranjit then hanged himself from the ceiling on his house. Neighbours, who came to the house a few minutes after the incident, saw Ranjit's body hanging in his room. The police and the neighbours entered the room by removing some roof tiles.
The police have recovered a note said to be written by Ranjit where he has expressed fear of failure in the examination in Science subject. He has held himself responsible for the suicide. He has wished good luck for some of his classmates and also advised his younger brother Kartik to study well. This note was found in his notebook.
The police said Ranjit was among the three children of Raghava Poojary and Jayanthi, who work as labourers.
