Lights are not working, toilets are stinking, staircases in the tower of the historic lighthouse needs repairs, there is no pump in the borewell for supplying water to the garden. These are the complaints J.R. Lobo, Mangalore City South MLA, received from the people when he visited Tagore Park on the Light House Hill Road here on Wednesday.

The MLA visited the park on request from Life Foundation, a voluntary organisation of the youths.

A member of the organisation told the MLA that the park was being misused as lights were not functioning. Only one light functioned at the park, said B. Prabhakar Shriyan, vice-president of Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation.

Hearing this, Mr. Lobo called up a police official at Bunder station and told him to take necessary steps. The MLA said that police personnel should take a round in the park between 6 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.
