Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Saturday said the State Government would announce a special package for the victims of endosulfan in Belthagady taluk.
Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Shettar said though compensation had been given to some, the exercise was not complete. The rehabilitation package in Kerala would be studied and the demand for taluk-level rehabilitation centre would be considered before announcing the package.
He promised to hold a meeting soon in Bangalore to consider proper rehabilitation of people living in the forest coming under the Kudremukh National Park area in Dakshina Kananda, Chikmagalur and Udupi. He said MLAs, district in-charge ministers would be invited for the meetings.
Regarding the attack on young men and women at a homestay in Padil last month he said none should take law into one’s hands. The guilty will be dealt with as per law. On the criticism of State Women’s Commission’s report, Mr. Shettar said “they have submitted the report. We have already taken action as per the law.”
To a question on the delay in the appointment of Chairman for State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) and the Lokayukta, he said the Government is taking the issues one by one. Two meetings have been held regarding the SHRC post. A case was pending in the Supreme Court regarding Lokayukta, he said and added that he had spoken to Governor H.R. Bharadwaj on the issue several times.
