As many as 42 teams, with six students and two mentors, began their 36-hour round-the-clock ‘Smart India Hackathon-2017’ at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday after the event, considered to be the one of biggest digital product development hackathon, was formally inaugurated by Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner, Udupi at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) Library auditorium here.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Ms. Francis expressed her willingness to organise a hackathon in Udupi district by involving the students of local engineering colleges to tackle the problems pertaining to the Udupi district.
Conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) the hackathon is being held simultaneously across the country in 26 centres.
The students at MIT nodal centre here are solving problem statements offered by the University Grants Commission (UGC)
Speaking to presspersons here, Preetham Kumar, Deputy Registrar - Academics (Technical) said that the teams were drawn from all over the country and are finding solutions to the problem statements of UGC.
“This is an important event for us as Manipal Institute of Technology is celebrating the diamond jubilee this year,” he said.
