M.A. Sharif, Deputy Director of Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre (VTPC), said on Thursday that the government was promoting exports in the State.

He was speaking at an awareness camp on export promotion organised by the VTPC, District Small Industries Association (DSIA) and Udupi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI) here.

Export is encouraged

Mr. Sharif said that it was wrong on the part of small industries to think that they could not export their products. The small industries were generally averse to taking any risk. But if they produce goods as per the required standards, they too could export their products.

Nearly 11,000 products were being exported from India to other countries. Karnataka was fourth in the country in exporting goods.

Exports were the engine of economic growth in the country. They helped in generating employment. The country also earned valuable foreign exchange through exports.
