The city’s first skywalk, with escalators on both the sides, near the Town Hall is expected to be ready in a year from now, according to J.R. Lobo, MLA, Mangaluru City South.

Speaking to presspersons after laying the foundation stone for the project on Tuesday, the MLA said that the sky walk would be built at an estimated Rs. 1.57 crore. It will connect the Mini Vidhana Soudha side with the Town Hall side.

The Karnataka Coastal Development Authority (KCDA) will bear the major portion, Rs. 81.2 lakh, of the cost. Mangaluru City Corporation and Mangaluru Urban Development Authority will provide their share.

The skywalk is expected to be 60m long and 3m wide. Nirmiti Kendra would build it. In addition to the escalators on both the sides there would be stairs on both sides only for climbing down.
