Six arrested on charge of transporting cattle

The district police have registered two separate cases for offences committed under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act 1964 here on Tuesday.

In the first instance, the Sullia Police said they intercepted a vehicle that was allegedly illegally transporting six cows in Jalsoor village in Sullia taluk on the morning of August 9. The accused in the case Hussainar, Joy, George, and Raja, have been arrested.

Later on the same day, the Kadaba Police arrested Abbas and Adam Kunhi in Bantra village in Puttur taluk for allegedly committing the same offence.

According to the police Santhosh Kumar, a calf was being transported in the vehicle. One other accused, Saifulla, reportedly fled the scene, the police said.
