Show-cause notice to five PDOs

July 31, 2017 01:31 am | Updated 01:31 am IST - MANGALURU

Chief Executive Officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat M.R. Ravi has served show-cause notices on panchayat development officers of five gram panchayats on the outskirts of the city for failing to prevent roadside dumping of garbage.

He has asked in the notice why the CEO should not recommend to the government to dissolve the panchayats as they have failed to maintain cleanliness.

Incidentally the five panchayats, Talapady, Someshwara, Belma and Ganjimutt in Mangaluru taluk and Pudu in Bantwal taluk, have earlier bagged the Nirmal Gram Puraskar and had been declared open defecation-free under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

According to the CEO, those panchayats had been instructed to dispose of garbage without harming the environment.

The notice has been issued for dereliction of duty of the PDOs.

If the PDOs failed to reply, action would be taken against them and the government would be urged to dissolve the panchayats, according to the notice.
