Work on last leg to begin on April 4; trains schedule to be hit for 28 days

April 01, 2013 12:47 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 04:49 am IST - MANGALORE:

The Southern Railways will begin non-interlocked work at Shoranur end as part of the larger Mangalore Junction-Shoranur railway line doubling from April 4. The Railways expects that the 312-km double line section will be operational by May 1.

The Chief Public Relations Officer of the Palakkad Division of Southern Railway S. James said the work on the 6-km stretch between Shoranur and Karakkad is targeted for completion by May 1. Doubling has been completed in remaining 306-km line up to Mangalore Junction, he said.

A press release said the improvements being undertaken at Shoranur will avoid detaining trains at Shoranur and Karakkad for crossing. When the work gets over, the Shoranur station will have a seventh platform with 24-coach capacity.

Only this section has single line now, Mr. James said.

The completion of the doubling work could lead to greater economic development and introduction of more trains.
