The District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting held here on Tuesday was told that the repair of the Shirady Ghat Road would begin in about a week’s time.
An official of the Public Works Department told the meeting chaired by Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel that the State government had released Rs. 1.2 crore for the repair. A short-term tender had been invited and the work assigned to a contractor by the end of this week.
He said 12 km of the ghat roads were repaired before the monsoon and the remaining part of the ghat would be repaired before January. The repair of B.C. Road-Dharmasthala Road would begin in a week, the official said.
Mr. Kateel asked Special Deputy Commissioner Dayananad to hold a meeting with Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd. to ensure that the roads in Sullia town – which had been dug up – were repaired without delay.
People were holding protests, he pointed out. He wondered why roads were dug if KRDCL could not repair them immediately.
