The Shiradi Ghat stretch of the Bangalore-Mangalore highway is likely to be thrown open for vehicular movement on Wednesday.

The road was closed after a gas tanker turned turtle near Maranahalli in Sakleshpur taluk on Monday.

The process of transferring the gas into an empty tanker began around noon on Tuesday, and is expected to continue till Wednesday morning. Rudre Gowda, District Fire Officer, told The Hindu that the “Gas leakage was stopped on Monday night. The decanting process is on and may continue till late in the evening on Tuesday. The tanker will be cleared only after decanting is completed,” he said.

The traffic movement on Shiradi Ghat was first stopped on Sunday morning, when a gas tanker fell off the road causing leakage of inflammable gas. Even as the road was cleared for vehicles by releasing the gas on Monday afternoon, another tanker turned turtle.

All Mangalore-bound vehicles have been diverted through Mudigere and the Charmadi Ghat.
