The Department of Health and Family Welfare held seven camps for victims of endosulfan “left out” of from camps that were held earlier, said Arun Kumar S.B., Endosulfan Victims Rehabilitation Nodal Officer.
He said the camps began last Wednesday and were held at Vittla (Bantwal), Kokkada in Belthangady taluk, Padangady, Puttur, Nellyadi, Koila, Uppinangady and Kaniyoor in Puttur taluk and Bellare in Sullia taluk.
He said while 400 persons attended the first five camps; the details of the people who attended the new camps would be available on Monday.
The persons who attended did not have identity cards. Mr. Kumar said, “They are totally new persons.” People who had been rejected earlier also attended the camps this time. Asked why they had returned if they had been rejected earlier, he said he was not sure of the reason.
B.V. Rajesh, District Surveillance Officer, Dakshina Kannada, said persons with disabilities were being assessed and would get disability certificates on the spot after checking with their specific village accountants and Tahsildars. He said 105 people attended the camp in Uppinangady, 224 people attended the camp in Koila.
Sridhar Gowda, president, Endosulfan Virodhi Horatha Samiti, said the camps required more publicity. He said, “They give advertisements in newspapers about the camps. Who reads them in the villages?”
