‘Separate task forces for protecting child rights’

They are going to be formed at all levels

Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner, said on Saturday that task forces will be formed in Udupi district for the protection of children’s rights. She was chairing a meeting on District Children’s Rights Protection at the District Offices Complex, here. Mr. Madhwaraj said that the task forces will be formed from the grassroots level.

Sixty per cent members of these task forces will be children and the remaining will comprise elected representatives and NGOs working for children’s rights.

The forces will be set up at the gram panchayat, then the taluk panchayat and finally the zilla panchayat level.

The work of such task forces, children’s helpline and action to be taken during emergencies, were discussed at the meeting.

Shilpa Nag, Assistant Commissioner, said that a drawing competition should be held for schoolchildren to select the logo for the task forces.

Srinivas Rao, Chief Planning Officer of Zilla Panchayat, B.K. Narayan, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, and other officers and representatives of voluntary organizations were present.
