Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said here on Monday that there was a provision in the law under which owners who had rented out their houses could submit details of the occupants to the jurisdictional police station. He said that he would see if it could be made mandatory under the jurisdiction of commissionerate.
Mr. Singh was responding to suggestions by senior citizens at an interaction in his office.
Earlier, Anand, a senior citizen living in Urwa police limits, suggested that the police make it mandatory for building owners to submit a copy of the rent agreement with details of occupants to the jurisdictional police. He said that it was necessary to have these details to prevent crimes and maintain law and order.
Damodara Shetty from Surathkal said that building contractors had brought in many workers from outside the State. He claimed that these contractors did not know their background nor did they have any details about them. It had given scope for people to suspect these workers in case of theft and other crimes. There was a need to ensure contractors took all details, he said.
A senior citizen from Bajpe said that some police stations did not have drinking water facility for visitors. Mr. Singh said that the problem would be taken care of.
Prabha Kudva said that there were no zebra crossings at many places in the city and many roads did not have footpaths. She said that senior citizens found it difficult to cross such roads.
Two senior citizens from Ullal said that the youth should also be involved while holding peace committee meetings.
K. Balakrishna of Kavoor said that the police should ensure that seats meant for senior citizens and persons with disabilities in buses were not occupied by others.
