Senior citizen injured as ‘drunk’ driver rams car

A 65-year-old man was injured after the vehicle he was driving was hit by a brand new car at the circle opposite to Hotel Deepa Comforts on M.G. Road Monday evening. Mangalore Traffic (West) police said Vedavyas (65), a resident of Kodialbail, was driving his car towards a shop near Deepa Comforts. He came down from the P.V.S. Circle and was taking a right turn at the circle . A car driven by Shyam Alva (40), a resident of Car Street, came from Besant College and rammed into the left side of Mr. Vedavyas’s car. Police said Mr. Vedavyas had an injury on his head.

Incidentally, Mr. Vedavyas’s son, who works in a software company, was driving his motorcycle on the road at the same time. He immediately called traffic police nearby and then moved his father to a private hospital on K.S. Rao Road. The police said Mr. Alva, who was found to be in an inebriated state, was also taken to a hospital for test. The police have registered a case against Mr. Alva.

Test drive brings Bejai traffic to halt

Traffic on Bejai Road was affected for nearly an hour after a car hit two other cars and came to a halt after ramming a barricade near the KSRTC bus stand Monday afternoon.

According to police, a person took out a car, which was for second hand sale, for a test drive.

The car driver lost control and brushed against two cars parked opposite to a footwear store. None were injured. No case was registered, the Mangalore East Traffic police said.

Kodagu: two die as car rams into lorry

Two persons travelling on a car died on the-spot and two others sustained serious injuries after their vehicle collided with a lorry at Anecadu in the Guddehosur gram panchayat in Madikeri on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Khalander (21) and Safan (20), both from Ramakunja at BC Road near Mangalore. The injured, Mohammad Shabbir and S. Khan, were shifted to a hospital in Mysore.

The car was proceeding to Kushalnagar from Madikeri while the lorry was moving in the opposite direction.

The victims and the injured were students of a private college in Mangalore and were on a trip of tourists spots in Kodagu.

Lorry driver, Altaf, has been arrested by the police. The bodies of the youths were handed over to the relatives after a post-mortem at the Kushalnagar hospital. Kushalnagar police have registered a case.
